ARTICLE BY OUR OWN JERRY TEASLEY...............A GREAT READ!!

I debated long and hard with myself before writing this article but yesterday’s events forced me to express my concerns.  If you agree with this please feel free to pass it on, it you do not agree I really don’t care.  I just hope and pray it will cause everyone who reads it to stop and think and not just follow popular opinion.

As we have another tragic shooting today, I cannot help but to feel for the victims and their families and think about how senseless these shooting are.   As a boy growing up in the 50’s and 60’s, guns were much easier to obtain than they are today.  All hardware stores sold them, Firestone, and Western Auto stores sold them, and you could even order all types of firearms through the mail.  Sears and Roebuck had an entire section in each issue of their catalog devoted to pistols, rifles and shotguns.  You could buy most any type firearm with no background check or waiting period.

I can remember getting on the school bus more than once with my shotgun.  I would take it to school for show and tell, for 4-H projects and even took it to high school where several of us used our shotguns at a pep rally against our football rival, the Hart County Bulldogs.  We took our shotgun shells and cut the ends off draining the shot so that all that remained was the wad and powder.  Our principal watched us as we altered these shells and talked to us during the process.  Funny I cannot remember a single school shooting during those years.  Shooting was a sport in many schools, 4 H and Scouting, where proper handling and safety were taught and the competition was fun.
During rabbit season my Dad used to pick me up at the beginning of the last recess when I was in the elementary school and we would go rabbit hunting.  The principal would also come out and talk to us and ask me about my shotgun and how well I could shoot it.  Looking back those were some of the best days of my life.  A life that is long gone.  This is a life that my children and grandchildren will never know or get to experience.

A peaceful way of life has passed and the world has changed into a dangerous place, but how and why?

Over the years our Federal Government has become more power hungry and grown by leaps and bounds.  They have passed laws in the name of freedom, safety and protection that have transferred our individual freedoms to that of more government control.  We allowed this because we were told that the federal government worked for us and was only looking out for our best interest.  Over the last 60 years we have been transformed from a government “of the people for the people,” to that of a government of the government over the people, and we have allowed it because we never saw it coming.  They were clever and understood the concept of how to boil a frog.  You can boil a frog if you heat the water slowly, the frog will swim around and enjoy the water.  However, if you try to place a frog in boiling water he will leap out of it.  Our freedoms have been boiled away slowly.

Our federal government now controls the economy, the banks, the investment houses, our retirement, our health care and even dictates the type car we drive.  The last hurdles are gun control, doing away with our Constitution, and completely removing the Bible from government and society. These people understand that it takes a long time to pull something like this off, but they are working on it and will not give up until they have completed the task.  Why would they destroy such a peaceful and wonderful way of life?  The answer is simple, greed and power!!

Let’s look back at the time I was in school and able to bring my shotgun or rifle to school.  A Bible story was read every morning, we had prayer and we said the Pledge of Allegiance.  Students were respectful and also afraid of the teachers and administrators because they would spank you, call your parents and you would get another spanking when you got home.  No parent argued with the teacher about punishment, it was expected.  You get out of line you pay the price.  But even then, after the punishment, you were treated with love and respect.  Parents were parents and would never think about being your friend as you grew up.  It was not their job.  They became your friend after you were grown.

My neighbors and relatives had no problems correcting me or any of my friends if we got out of line.  Again, this was expected and you knew it.  There was a consequence for every action good or bad and it did not take long to learn the difference.  Sadly, in most cases this does not exist today. If you discipline your child in public today, there is a very good chance that someone will call the government and report you for child abuse.  There is also a good chance you will be fined, jailed or have your children removed from your care.  The child grows up knowing there are no prices to pay and no consequences for bad behavior.

In my childhood if a girl became pregnant in school, she left school and in many cases left town to live with relatives.  The babies were put up for adoption or raised by a relative.  (I know I was one of the ones put up for adoption) Now they are aborted or raised by parents or grandparents who don’t want them and really don’t want to be bothered with them.  We have the “me” generation.  I come first and my family and children come much later.  There has been a steady moral decay these last 60 years and it has not been for the better.  Many children today are raised in single family homes where they witness a parent with multiple sex partners or a parent dealing with drug and/or alcohol abuse. Today in some schools it is even a status symbol to have a baby while in high school, many have more than one.  It is ok, because we not only condone it but our government pays them for having babies.  What message does this send?

There have been many areas in which the government has used to transfer control from we, the people to them.  Political correctness, environment, safety, education and fairness all come to mind.  They all sound good don’t they?   Yes, and this is how they were able to pull it off, by making it sound good.  We are more concerned today with how well a politician says something than the content of what they are saying.  They can say nothing as long as they say it well.

So what about guns?  Easy, they make them the symbol of evil by calling semi-automatic rifles “assault weapons.”  The term, “assault weapon” is a term taken from the military referring to weapons with a selector switch.  This switch has three positions.  One for safe (this is when it will not fire), one for semi-automatic (this is just like any other semi-automatic weapon where you must pull the trigger to fire each shot), and one for auto (this is when you need to fire a weapon at full auto-you simply pull the trigger and it fires until you release the trigger or run out of ammo).

The civilian AR-15,  the AK-47, the Ruger mini-14 are nothing more than semi-auto rifles dressed up cosmetically to look like and resemble the military’s “assault weapons,” but they function no differently than any other semi-automatic rifle or pistol that has been around since the late 1800’s.  You can carry them on safe where they will not shoot or you can carry them on fire where they only can fire one bullet at a time.  But we paint them with this term to make them sound evil and dangerous, and over time the public will buy into the idea.

High cap magazines that feed the ammo into the weapon are now the target.  They want to limit the magazine capacity to only ten rounds.  What is this going to solve?  Anyone with a little bit of practice can change out a magazine in 2-3 seconds.  An expert shooter can conduct a mag change in a second or less.  So what has this solved, other than give the government one more step toward gun control?  Expert shooters can even shoot a revolver so fast that they can shoot 6 times, empty and reload and shoot 6 more rounds in less than 3 seconds.  Check out Jerry Miculek on Youtube and see for yourself.  So limiting the number of rounds will not save a single life.  If you think gun control really works and you think it will save lives then explain to me why Chicago, Washington, DC, Los Angles and New York City have such a high number of gun related deaths while having more gun control laws on the books than anywhere else in the continental US.  It is not about safety, it is about control.

Make no mistake, the real mission is control, and the government will not stop until they reach this goal.  Watch as they start to go after the ammo companies with new requirements and environmental restrictions, and watch as they start to pressure the banks and brokerage houses, which they control, to cut off the funding for gun companies.  They are going to use whatever means available to them to reach their ultimate goals.

Guns are much harder to obtain today than when I was growing up and now we have these shootings that did not exist in those days.  Moral decay is the fastest growing problem in America and our government does not care.  The fact that moral decay is increasing is good reason for more government control, why not, it has been working for over 60 years.

I challenge you to watch the news and listen to what is reported and you are going to hear more about gun control, the Constitution being outdated and how the Bible has no place in our lives because it is no longer applicable to today’s society.  I don’t care what your religious beliefs are or your political affiliation, you must realize that the Bible contains the foundation upon which our laws were written and certainly teaches how to treat others along with how to know right from wrong.  This is why our Founding Fathers declared this country to be “one nation under God.” The Constitution is the greatest document ever written by man and is timeless.  However, you will hear the ones who are not in favor of these changes being called radical, backward and out of touch.  Sadly, if they preach this long enough the majority of Americans will start to believe it and the America we have known, fought and died for will be a memory.
While most of the establishment in Washington DC (both parties) tries to show you how hard they are working and how they agree with you, it must be remembered that most are greedy, corrupt and so entangled with their own personal agendas that are not really listening to or care what any of us think.  Remember, there are 535 elected officials that run this country.  Every problem our country now faces was created or caused by their actions and/or failures.  Yet, they tell us that they can fix these problems and blame it on others while we keep re-electing them.

If you are as concerned about this as I am there is something you can do.  You have the power to alter the path this country is taking.  The power of the vote is our best weapon against the downward spiral our country is taking.  Listen to what these running for election are really saying and not just how they say it.  Look at their history and what they supported in their past.  Stop voting because of how well someone speaks or how they look, and really look at what they actually believe and stand for.  We need people with morals, integrity and honesty in Washington and right now these character traits are lacking in most of our government officials.

Think about it.
