Afghanistan and America-One Patriot’s Venting

One Patriot’s Venting

Reference the Soviet Union (USSR) and Afghanistan: Am I the only person that connects the nine year war, 1979-1988, of the Soviet Union against the Islamist Mujahideen Resistance, popularly known to most of the West as the mujahideen, to what the United States is facing today in Afghanistan? A few people (e.g., Henry Kissinger) have mentioned the Soviet Union in connection with Afghanistan, but seemed hesitant to go further with the idea, making the connection and proper comparison.

I became more aware of the mujahideen through and after the 1988 movie "The Beast of War". If you have not seen this movie, at least read a review or synopsis of it. The United States and India, along with Muslin nations like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and others, through the context of the Cold War and the regional India-Pakistan conflict, gave support to the Islamist Mujahideen Resistance.

It reminds me of the romantic support the people of the United States had for Fidel Castro in Cuba in the early '60's - freedom fighters against the oppressors (i.e., dictators or communists). (Yep, I'm that old.)

The United States was instrumental in the mujahideen defeating the Soviets, because we supplied Stinger missiles that were capable of shooting down the Soviet helicopters. Soviet helicopters were the one weapon that the mujahideen could not defeat. We enabled them to overcome the Soviets. Now we are facing the ones we encouraged and enabled.

Afghanistan is part of the war we have been waging since at least the Marine Barracks bombing in Beirut on October 23, 1983; through the first World Trade Center bombing on February 26, 1993; through the USS Cole bombing on October 12, 2000; and the attacks on September 11, 2001.

So, my conclusion is that we can win in Afghanistan. America can accomplish anything we decide to do. We have never lost in war. What about Korean? It is not over; we chose to enter into a truce because China entered the war on the side of the North. I am convinced that we will finally end it with the capitulation of the North Korean regime, similar to how we beat the USSR.

What about Vietnam? America did not lose the war. The politicians in DC and the news media capitulated, surrendered. It appears that this may be the outcome of the war in Afghanistan.

The current administration, Big “0”, his America hating czars and circle of friends, and the progressive controlled House and Senate, are on track to repeat the history of the Vietnam failure of resolve.

Our military is the greatest the world has ever seen. America is still the home of the brave and the land of the free. The American people are still the most creative and energetic of any people of the world. Our current administration, Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary branches, are the most liberty hating and God hating that America has ever had.

It’s time to stand up for America and liberty seeking people everywhere.
